Are Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas Healthy?

These Air Fryer chicken fajitas are super healthy. They pack in the protein from the chicken, and have bell peppers and onions, which is a great way to get more vegetables on your plate.

You’ll be using olive oil, which is a super healthy fat, and if you can whip up some homemade fajita seasoning, you’ll get brownie points for that too.

Plus, you’ll also get the chance to customize the fajitas based on your personal preference, which means you can add a lot more vegetables or other healthy add-ons into it.

A big plus with making these fajitas in the Air Fryer is the fact that they’re actually super affordable too. Most Air Fryer recipes tend to be budget friendly, which is another win in my books!

Place the sliced chicken, peppers and sliced red onion into a large bowl, coat with 4 tablespoons oil and season with 4 tablespoons of fajita seasoning.

Make sure everything is evenly coated with the fajita seasoning mix. You can also squeeze a bit of lime juice to bring in some extra tanginess.

Step 3: Cook the Chicken Fajitas Evenly

Add the fajitas to the air fryer basket without over filling. If you have a smaller air fryer, you might want to cook the chicken fajitas in two batches or more if needed.

If you’re starting off with a whole chicken breast, you might want to cut it into thin slices to cut down the cooking time.

Also remember that the cooking time for raw chicken will be different than the cooking time for frozen chicken. If you’re confused, just check if the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit and it will be safe to eat! Additionally, you can check if the juices run clear when you cut into the chicken. That’s a sure sign that it’s cooked properly. Happy cooking!

Step 4: Let it Rest

Cook each batch for 10 minutes, tossing halfway. Remove and let rest for a couple of minutes.

If your chicken strips are thicker, you may want to check if the internal temperature reaches the recommended guidelines, and adjust the cook time accordingly.

Step 5: Assemble the Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas

Warm the tortillas and add a spread of sour cream. Add the fajitas, and top with cheese and cilantro, serve with some lime wedges and enjoy!

Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas Recipe Variations

You can also bring a bit of variation to these easy Air Fryer chicken fajitas.

We’ve used shredded jack cheese for this recipe, but you can also use shredded cheddar cheese or even some mozzarella if that’s what you have at hand.

You can also use refried beans as an add-on to get some more protein and a bit of extra flavor to the dish.

Another great idea is to add some more vegetables into the mix while you’re air frying everything. Mushrooms, zucchini and broccoli are some good choices.
