Is this Pizza the Same as Pizza Rustica?

Honestly, this isn’t! Pizza rustica, also known as pizza Chiena, is a traditional Italian recipe, and is crafted using Italian sausage, cured meats, meats and cheeses and a few other ingredients.

Infact, pizza rustica doesn’t even look like a pizza- it actually resembles a pie, and has the perfect flaky pie crust.

Tips & Tricks to Make the Easter Pizza for Kids

Ready to give this easy recipe a try? You might want to take note of these little tips and tricks.

  • To add more flavor to the pizza, you can also top it with a drizzle of olive oil.
  • You can also brush some beaten egg mixture on the exposed parts of the top crust of the pizza to lend it a nice shine.
  • While mozzarella cheese is the best choice for this recipe, you can also experiment and add some more kinds of cheese like ricotta cheese and basket cheese. In fact, you can also use a mix of two or more cheeses.
  • If you have any excess dough leftover that you want to store for later, transfer it to a large bowl and cover the top with plastic wrap. This can then be refrigerated for 2-3 days.
  • I love having lots of toppings on my Easter pizza, and if you do too, you can also create a deep dish pizza for kids. Simply assemble the dough and the toppings in a springform pan instead of a baking dish.

What Other Toppings Can I Use?

With pizza, there are endless topping options.

Most Italian recipes call for the use of classic ingredients like basil leaves, tomatoes and olives, but you can also experiment and try out toppings like sliced bell peppers, capers, jalapenos, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, pineapple and even grilled and chopped chicken.

How Do I Serve this Easter Pizza?

The best way to serve this bunny shaped pizza for kids is to serve it fresh, right out of the oven, cut into individual slices using a pastry cutter.

You can serve the pizza slices with some ketchup, ranch and a side of garlic bread or mozzarella sticks if you really want to go all out.

You could eat this along side a pizza rustica Italian Easter Pie covered in egg wash or enjoy this pizza with hard boiled eggs for a happy easter treat.
