🔀 Substitutions & Variations
- Avocado & Base Alternatives: For a creamier texture, use ripe Hass avocados. You can also blend in a bit of Greek yogurt or mashed peas to modify the consistency and add a subtle tang.

💭 FAQs
For perfect guacamole, pick an avocado that’s soft but not squishy, with dark green or black skin. Avoid ones that are too hard, mushy, or cracked. Bonus tip: pop off the stem—if it’s green or yellow underneath, it’s good to go!
Keep leftover avocado from browning by adding a squeeze of lemon or lime juice and covering it tightly with plastic wrap or a container. Leave the pit in if you can, and pop it in the fridge. Ready for more guac later!
If you have any leftover guacamole, you can transfer it to an airtight container or in a bowl and cover it with cling wrap to keep it from getting exposed to any air, thereby cutting down the risk of browning due to oxidation. As an extra precaution, you can also squeeze some lime or lemon juice over the top of the guacamole before you refrigerate it. It is best to finish using up your leftover guac recipe within two to three days.
If your guacamole ends up spicier than you'd like, you can balance the heat by adding more of the other ingredients, such as avocados, tomatoes, or onions, to dilute the spiciness. Incorporating a bit of sugar or honey can also help counteract the heat. Additionally, serving the guacamole with cooling sides like sour cream or yogurt can provide relief from the spice.
To keep guacamole fresh and vibrant, it's essential to minimize its exposure to air, which can cause oxidation and browning. One effective method is to press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole before refrigerating it. Additionally, incorporating ingredients like lime juice not only enhances flavor but also helps in preventing browning due to its acidity.
