Why I Love this Recipe
One of the best things about this guacamole recipe, in my opinion, is the fact that it is super easy to put together, and yet, so healthy too.
Most of my favorite dips are high in calories, and of course, not that great when it comes to nutritive value. This guacamole, on the other hand, packs in good fats, vitamins and antioxidants too.
Now that’s a snack I can actually feel good about eating!

Tips to Make the Best Guacamole
Ready to give this awesome recipe a try and make guacamole my way? You might want to have these little tips and tricks handy too.
- An authentic guacamole recipe also calls for the use of fresh garlic. If you want to, you can add some minced garlic into the mix as well.
- I have used red onion for this recipe, but you can also consider using white onion if that’s what you have at hand.
- While you can use any kind of diced tomato for this recipe, I would recommend using juicy Roma tomatoes, because they really add so much flavor and deliciousness to the homemade guacamole dip.
- Apart from the onion cilantro and tomato, you can also add a bit of olive oil into the mix while making guacamole. This can really elevate the flavors of the remaining ingredients and make the guacamole healthy than it already is.
How to Keep the Avocado Half From Turning Brown?
To keep your leftover avocado from turning brown, squeeze some lemon or add lime juice on the flesh and cover it tightly with plastic wrap or an airtight container.
Keeping the pit in the half that still has it can also help slow down the oxidation process. Avoid exposing the avocado to air and store it in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
This leftover avocado can then be used to make homemade guacamole again!
How to Choose the Right Avocados
To choose a good ripe avocado for this homemade guacamole recipe, look for one that is slightly soft to the touch but not mushy. A good avocado will have dark green or black skin and may have some small brown spots.
Avoid using avocados that are too firm or too soft, as well as those with large dents or cracks- they should be perfectly ripe for this recipe.
You can also gently remove the stem at the top to check the color underneath – if it’s green or yellow, the avocado is ripe and ready to eat.
How to Store Leftover Homemade Guacamole?
If you have any leftover guac, you can transfer it to an airtight container or in a bowl and cover it with cling wrap to keep it from getting exposed to any air, thereby cutting down the risk of browning due to oxidation.
As an extra precaution, you can also squeeze some lime or lemon juice over the top of the guacamole before you refrigerate it.
It is best to finish using up your leftover guac within two to three days.
