Melt The Chocolate
Melt and temper the black and green candy melts as directed on the package.
Coat The Mold With Chocolate
Using the back of a spoon place the melted chocolate (green and black chocolate) into the mold and lightly swirl while coating the mold. Make sure you cannot see the mold through the candy melts.
Freeze The Chocolate Shells
Place the cocoa bomb mold in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Remove Chocolate Domes From Mold
Once the chocolate hardens remove the chocolate shell carefully and set to one side.
Heat Edges Of Chocolate Shell
Turn a frying pan on to low heat or press the saute function on your Instant Pot.
Add Hot Cocoa Mix
Place the bomb edge side down into the pan or pot. Melt slightly just to even out the edges. Quickly remove the dome and fill with two tablespoons of hot cocoa mix and mini marshmallows.
Quickly heat another dome edge and place on top of the one with the cocoa mix. Make sure to align the domes well.
You can now repeat the process for the second and third Halloween hot chocolate bomb.
Add Eyeballs To Your Zombie Hot Cocoa Bomb
Using cooled hot chocolate place a little melted chocolate on the back of the candy eyeball and place onto the front of the chocolate cocoa bomb. This creates the eyes for your Zombie Halloween treat.
Add Hair To Your Zombie Treat
Paint chocolate on top of the chocolate bomb and place green pearl sprinkles to make a Zombie mohawk.
How To Store Hot Chocolate Bombs
Keep your Halloween cocoa bombs in the fridge until you’re ready to put them in hot milk. If you are making the cocoa bombs in advance or you need to keep your Halloween treats for longer, you can place your hot cocoa bombs in the freezer for up to a month.
You can make a whole variety of these for Halloween. Simply use different melted chocolate colors for different Halloween characters and enjoy the milk chocolate drinks with the kids or adults on Halloween night.
Tips For Melting Chocolate
When melting your chocolate for the Zombie Hot Cocoa Bombs it’s important to do it gradually. It’s best to break the chocolate into small pieces and place them in a heat proof bowl over hot but not boiling water, stirring every now and then until melted.
Alternatives To Using a Double Boiler
Alternatively you could use a wilton melting pot designed for melting chocolate melts and chocolate chips. This is a much easier and safer way of melting chocolate, especially if making them with the kids.
Using Your Hot Chocolate Bomb
When you are ready to use your hot chocolate bomb, place it into a mug and pour hot milk over it. Stir to combine the chocolate bombs and milk until you have a creamy delicious Halloween treat. If you want to try a different flavor drink why not try a rumchata hot chocolate with these cocoa bombs?

What Is The Best Mold For Making Hot Chocolate Bombs?
The best mold to use for making Hot Cocoa bombs is a dome shaped silicone mold. This ensures that the edges of your cup will be even and it’s easy to release from the mold without breaking.
Using A Silicone Mold For Hot Cocoa Bombs
Silicone molds are great because you can use them multiple times and they are easy to clean. All you need to do is rinse the mold with warm water and a gentle soap before using it again.
You can also use an acrylic mold, however you may need to use a knife or spatula to remove the chocolate bombs from the mold. I find the silicone much easier to work with when working with melted chocolate.
Can You Make Hot Chocolate Bombs Without A Mold?
It would be very hard to make a hot cocoa bomb without a mold. The mold is ideal for making the chocolate spheres and chocolate molds make it much easier to evenly coat the inside of the sphere so that it can be filled without breaking.
Can Hot Cocoa Bombs Be Reheated?
Yes, hot cocoa bombs can be reheated in a mug with hot milk or even in the microwave if they get too cold.
Can I Use Chocolate Chips Instead Of Chocolate Melts?
Yes, you can use chocolate chips instead of candy melts. However it’s best to melt them slowly and in very small batches so that they don’t burn or become grainy.
How Do I Add Flavor To My Zombie Hot Cocoa Bombs?
If you would like to add some flavor to your hot cocoa bombs try adding a teaspoon of espresso powder, a pinch of cinnamon or a few drops of peppermint extract. You could also use flavored syrups such as caramel for added sweetness and flavor.
Can I Add Sprinkles To My Hot Cocoa Bombs?
Yes, you can add sprinkles to your Halloween hot cocoa bomb for extra decoration. Just ensure that you don’t add too much as this can make them harder to stick together.
Handling the Hot Cocoa Bombs
When handling the hot cocoa bombs be sure to use clean hands and work on a clean surface. This will help ensure that your Halloween treats stay fresh and delicious.
You can make hot chocolate bombs very easy but just be careful when adding the hot cocoa mix inside to ensure the edges of your chocolate shell is melted well enough.
Assembling Hot Chocolate Bombs
One suggestion to help keep the cocoa bombs from breaking is to place the chocolate shells on parchment paper while preparing the heat from the frying pan or Instant Pot.
Melting Chocolate–Double Boiler Method
The double boiler is the most common way to melt chocolate for a hot cocoa bomb. To use this method, place your chopped chocolate into a heatproof bowl over boiling water in a saucepan.
Stir continuously with a rubber spatula until all the lumps have melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy. Be careful to not let any water or steam into the bowl as this can cause the chocolate to seize and become unusable.
Once all the lumps have melted, remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes before you start to assemble your Halloween Hot Cocoa Bombs.
What To Serve With Hot Cocoa Bombs
Garnish your hot cocoa bombs with marshmallows, crushed candy cane pieces or sprinkles for an extra festive touch.
You can also serve this hot chocolate bombs recipe with cookies or other snacks. Enjoy your delicious Zombie Hot Cocoa Bombs and have a spooky Halloween!
