Tips for Making Alabama White Sauce
- Make the Sauce While the Chicken Cooks. To save time, go ahead and make the sauce while your chicken is in the Instant Pot.
- Whisk Sauce Well. You don’t want any lumps in your sauce so make sure you whisk it really well.
- Mix Chicken and Sauce. Instead of topping the chicken with the sauce, I have found that it’s more flavorful when the sauce is mixed in with the shredded chicken.
Spice Things Up With These Additions
- Lemon Juice/ Apple Cider Vinegar: Adding lemon juice or apple cider vingar to the Alabama White Sauce gives it a bright, tangy kick that balances the creamy base.
- Prepared Horseradish: Adding horseradish to the Alabama white barbecue sauce makes it a bit spicy and more flavorful. Mix it in right before you’re done making the sauce, and add as much as you like depending on how spicy you want it.
