This gorgeous Butter Chicken will be amazing and mouth-watering all in the same bite, all with a luxurious and rich creamy sauce and a marvelous blend of spices. Butter Chicken is very similar to Chicken Tikka Masala without the spicy kick which you get from the Tikka Masala.

Here is a break down of this recipe and the ingredients you will need as you prepare this delicious homemade butterchicken recipe.
- Spices: Paprika, Chili Powder, Curry Powder, Cumin, salt and minced garlic.
- Chicken: For this recipe, you have two choices and either will do. Chicken breast or chicken thigh. They can be seasoned easily and are just as juicy and succulent.
- Liquids: Water (do not add more than 1/2 cup of water, as it could turn out too watery), Heavy cream, and liquids from the tomato sauce and melted butter. and from the tomato paste/puree.
- Tomato: Tomato paste and passata or tomato puree are all a part of this recipe. With the water from the paste and passata. This reduces the need for more than 1 cup of water.
- Butter: Unsalted butter is preferred, as we want to keep our cholesterol and sodium levels low.
- Garnish: Parsley or Cilantro or Basil leafs finely chopped do. You could also add chopped spring onions if you wish.
- Cream: Heavy Cream whipped with a hand mixer.
- Side Dish Options: You could have a rice side dish with basmati rice or any other type of rice. Along with some freshly cooked/heated Naan Bread.
- 2-3 chicken breast cut into 2” bites
- 1/2 onion diced
- 1 stick of butter
- 5 tablespoons of minced garlic
- 1 15oz can of tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon of paprika
- 1 tablespoon of chili powder
- 3 tablespoons of curry powder
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro
- 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
HOW TO MAKE this homemade Butter Chicken recipe
Set the instant pot to sauté mode and melt the butter. Add the onion and sauté until the onion is golden.
Toss in the garlic and sauté for 2 minutes
Add the chicken and brown the outside. Once the chicken is browned, add the spices, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and cilantro. Sauté for 1 minute.
Seal the lid and pressure valve and cook on high pressure for 10 minutes. Let the instant pot naturally release pressure when done.
Remove the lid and stir in the cream for 4 minutes.
Enjoy best with basmati rice and fresh garlic naan.
At the end of the cooking cycle Natural Pressure Release (NPR) for 10 minutes, then Quick Pressure Release (QPR) the rest of the pressure for 5 minutes.
