Variations

  • Chicken Tortellini Soup: Use shredded chicken, chicken broth, celery, and garnish with parsley.
  • Spicy Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup: Replace sirloin with spicy sausage, add red pepper flakes, zucchini, and finish with fresh basil.
  • Seafood Tortellini Soup: Swap sirloin for shrimp, use seafood broth, add fennel, and garnish with dill and lemon juice.

Substitutions

  • Chicken Broth Or Vegetable Broth: Beef broth is recommended for flavor, but you can use chicken broth or vegetable broth as an alternative.
  • Ground Turkey: Can be a flavorful substitute for ground beef in tortellini soup recipes, offering a leaner option while still providing a hearty taste.
  • Garlic Substitute: If fresh minced garlic isn’t available, garlic powder can be used instead.
  • Ground Sausage: I used ground meat for this soup recipe, but you can opt for your choice of ground sausage. Mild Italian sausage is common in classic tortellini soup, but for better flavor, I suggest using chicken or turkey sausage.
