Instant Pot Hibachi Fried Rice

Take out can get expensive especially if you like fried rice as much as I do. Instead of heading to Hibachi for your favorite fried rice, you can use this Instant Pot Hibachi Fried Rice recipe to make your own at home.  This dish can be cooked in both an instant pot and rice cooker.

What Is Hibachi Fried Rice?

The main difference between fried rice and Hibachi Fried Rice is that one is Chinese and one is Japanese. Hibachi Fried Rice is Japanese. Japanese style fried rice tends to use sushi type rice which is shorter, grainier, and stickier than Chinese style rice. Additionally, Hibachi Fried Rice uses a lot of seasoning to give you just the right taste.

Instant Pot Hibachi Fried Rice

In this recipe, you are using the traditional Soyaki Sauce that is used at the Hibachi grill to make their Japanese style fried rice.

Ingredients For Hibachi Rice

  • 2 cups long grain rice rinsed
  • 2 cups vegetable stock
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup Trader Joe’s Soyaki Sauce, or traditional soy sauce. If you are not near a Trader Joe’s, you can buy the Soyaki on Amazon.
  • 1 small yellow onion finely chopped
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 package of frozen vegetables. We use peas in our 😊

How to store Hibachi Rice

Once you have cooked the hibachi rice, allow it to cool slightly before storing it in an air tight container in the fridge. It will keep for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the hibachi rice for up to 2 months. Simply thaw and reheat in the microwave when you are ready to enjoy it again.

What Vegetables Can I Add to Hibachi Rice?

You can add any of your favorite vegetables to hibachi rice. Some good options include:

  • Bell peppers
  • Onion
  • Mushrooms
  • Zucchini
  • Snow Peas
  • Bean Sprouts

What Can I Serve With Hibachi Rice?

Hibachi rice makes a great side dish for chicken, steak, and shrimp. You can also add it to your favorite stir-fry recipe to enjoy with any leftover rice. Enjoy!

How To Make Instant Pot Hibachi Rice

Steps 1-7: Set your Instant Pot to the browning/sauté function, add sesame oil and butter and allow to sizzle.

Add onion and sauté for 1 minute. Stir occasionally. Add eggs and cook for another minute, stirring often.

Steps 8-10: Add vegetable stock, Soyaki sauce or soy sauce.

Finally add the rice to the pot.

Step 11: Lock lid and set to rice function and cook for 10 minutes. Release steam.

Step 12: Add frozen vegetables and stir. Allow to sit for 1 minute. Serve immediately.

Hibachi Fried Rice

You may want to try this Instant Pot Hibachi Fried Rice if you want something different you can have with your family on a lunch time or dinner.

Total Time 20 minutes

Ingredients
