Is an Instant Pot worth it? I have seen many people contemplating whether or not to get an Instant Pot. When it comes to getting an Instant Pot, it’s important to know what it is and how it works before making your decision. Ultimately, the Instant Pot is only worth it if it will work with your life. Here’s what you need to know:

How Does the Instant Pot Work?
An Instant Pot is a multi-cooking machine. This means that it can cook a variety of foods and can even work like a crock pot if you choose to use that feature.
It is a type of pressure cook that works by creating heat under a tight seal. The temperature inside an Instant Pot is much higher than the boiling point of water and the steam is unable to escape. The steam then cooks the food much more quickly than the traditional stove top or oven cooking.
What Does an Instant Pot Do?
The Instant Pot can do a variety of different things. The most popular Instant Pot is the Instant Pot Duo which is a 7-in-1 electric pressure cooker. It also comes in the most popular size which is a 6 quart pot. Like other pots, you get 7 functions in one single pot. Here’s the functions you can do:
- Slow cooker
- Rice cooker
- Pressure cook
- Yogurt maker
Is the Instant Pot a Pressure Cooker?
The Instant Pot is not a traditional pressure cooker. Traditional pressure cookers do not require an electrical outlet. The Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker.
Thus, the Instant Pot is similar to a traditional pressure cooker. The only difference is that the heat-source is electric and does not require gas or an electric stove to use. Additionally, these electric pressure cookers are built with several safety features.
Are Instant Pots Safe?
Because Instant Pots have at least 10 different safety features, they are actually very safe! One of the questions I get asked alot is Will Your Instant Pot Blow Up? The short answer to this is, no it will not blow up. However, you can have mishaps if you aren’t careful. Here are a few of the safety features your Instant Pot would have:
- Pressure control safety feature
- Anti blockage vent safety feature
- Safety lid lock safety feature
- Temperature control feature

How to Open the Instant Pot Safely?
It’s really easy to open up your Instant Pot! The first thing you need to do is take it out of the box! Usually everything is all attached to the instant pot when you pull it out. In fact, even the sealing ring that goes around the lid is usually on and you have an extra one in the box. However, make sure the seal is on the inside of the lid, your pressure release valve is on the lid, and the cord is plugged into the Instant Pot.
Next, you will want to do your Water Test! The water test is super easy and it helps you get acclimated to how your Instant Pot works. All you do is put water in your pot, put your vent in the sealing position, put your lid on the pot, press the manual button for 1 min, and then do a quick release. If you mess it up, no worries because you didn’t ruin any food!
Is an Instant Pot Worth It? My Opinion
In my opinion, I truly think an Instant Pot is worth every penny. Unlike a traditional pressure cooker, the Instant Pot monitors internal pressure and temperature for you. So, you don’t have to adjust it as it cooks. It’s much like using your crock pot with much shorter cooking time. Set it and go! The clean up is so easy, and I have never had dishes that clean so easily.
However, I will say the Instant Pot is a little bit of a learning curve. Additionally, I was disappointed with some of the other features such as the slow cook setting. The Instant Pot really doesn’t make a good crock pot since it only heats from the bottom.
Ultimately, I am very satisfied with both of my Instant Pots, and I love making easy, delicious meals with them!
