👩🍳 Expert Tips
- Choose the Right Potatoes: Russet potatoes are best for this soup as they break down easily and give the soup a creamy consistency.
- Saute your Ingredients: Before pressure cooking, saute your onions and garlic in the Instant Pot. This will enhance their flavor and bring out a rich depth to your soup.
- Don't Overfill Your Instant Pot: When adding ingredients, don't fill the Instant Pot more than two-thirds full. This ensures proper pressure buildup and even soup cooking.
- Use High-Quality Stock: Using high-quality chicken or vegetable stock can greatly enhance your soup's flavor. Homemade is best, but if using store-bought, opt for low sodium to control salt levels.
💭 FAQs
Russet potatoes are recommended for their starchy quality, providing a creamy texture to the soup. Yukon gold or red potatoes also work in this recipe.
If your soup is too thick, just add a bit more broth until you reach your desired consistency.
Yes, replace the cream with a dairy-free alternative like coconut milk or almond milk. Omit the cheese or use a dairy-free substitute.
Yes, but the cooking time will need to be adjusted.
You can add a dash of cayenne pepper, hot sauce, or chili flakes to add some heat to the soup.
Yes, mashing potatoes is a crucial step in making potato soup. It helps to create a smooth texture and creaminess in the soup. A potato masher is the ideal tool for this task.
First, allow the soup to cool down to room temperature, but ensure it doesn't sit out for more than two hours to prevent bacterial growth.
Once cooled, portion the soup into airtight containers - preferably glass ones, as they don't absorb odors and are easier to clean.
If you plan on consuming the leftovers in the next 3-4 days, you can store them in the refrigerator.
For longer storage, consider freezing the soup. When freezing, leave about an inch of space at the top of the container because the soup will expand as it freezes.
